Dr. Veronica Sosa-Gonzalez named Coordinator, VT EPSCoR Center for Workforce Development & Diversity at Saint Michael's College

VT EPSCoR is very happy to welcome Veronica Sosa-Gonzalez, Ph.D., as the Coordinator of the VT EPSCoR Center for Workforce Development & Diversity at Saint Michael’s College (CWDD).
 
Veronica holds a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont, and a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico. Her Ph.D. Dissertation Defense was on “Erosion rates in (sub) tropical, rapidly developing countries: An isotopic approach to measuring background rates of erosion in Brazil and China” in 2016.
 
Dr. Sosa-Gonzalez first came to VT as a summer intern for EPSCoR in 2009, and she has been involved with EPSCoR in different capacities since. Most recently, Veronica served as an Outreach Professional for VT EPSCoR, where she assisted summer interns and mentors to ensure students’ wellbeing and success. Dr. Sosa-Gonzalez traveled extensively in this position to help with diversity outreach recruitment at various institutions both locally and around the country including attending SACNAS – The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science- an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicano/Hispanic and Native American scientists and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) national meetings.
 
Dr. Sosa-Gonzalez is currently completing her certification from the National Research Mentoring Network and has completed training from the Intercultural Communications Institute. “I am excited to continue working towards the CWDD mission of training the next generation of scientists and increasing diversity in STEM fields."
 
Dr. Judith Van Houten, VT State EPSCoR Director, is pleased to welcome Veronica to her new position. “Dr. Veronica Sosa-Gonzalez is a familiar face in Vermont EPSCoR as she was once an intern in our Streams Program, and after receiving her PhD at UVM in RSENR, she joined CWDD as an Outreach Professional. Now she is taking over the reins of the entire program, which is so vital to Vermont EPSCoR's mission in Vermont. CWDD is housed at Saint Michael's College and is known for its intern and high school programs and other outreach education efforts. We welcome Dr. Sosa-Gonzalez to this new position and hope that you all will congratulate her.”
