Dr. Anita J. La Salle - Program Director Division for Computer and Network Systems, NSF - Biographical Sketch


Anita J. La Salle is a Program Director in the National Science Foundation's Division for Computer and Network Systems (CNS) (2000-present). From 2009 until 2010 she was Acting Deputy Division Director for the Computing and Communication Foundations Division (CCF). Previously she served in the Division for Undergraduate Education (1987-1988) and as a consultant to the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (1988-1998) and the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (2000-2005).

In her current role as Program Director in NSF’s CISE/CNS Division, Anita’s programs include: Innovation Corps Program (I-Corps), Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER), and Computer Systems Research Program (CSR).

Anita is Professor Emeritus from American University (AU) in Washington, DC where she served as Chair of the Computer and Information Science Department, in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Chair of the Information Technology Department, in the Kogod School of Business. Prior to joining NSF and AU Anita had a career in industry and was a faculty member at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). She earned her BS and MS degrees from NJIT and her Ph.D. from Stevens Institute of Technology. Her research interests include Software Engineering and Software Process Improvement, Project Risk Assessment, and Systems Software. She is a member of the ACM and IEEE.
