Dr. XU has experience conducting aquatic system research and micro-algal biofuel program. The areas of his study range from aquarium, bioreactor, large lakes (Lake Champlain, USA; Three Gorges Reservoir and Danjiangkou Reservoir, China) to Lake District (Region and continent scale). He majors in population ecology, community ecology and ecosystem ecology, and his interests focus on the application and potential integrations of several ecology theories in the meta-modeling and analysis (e.g. Law of the minimum, LM; Principles of population growth, PPG; Ecological synchrony concept, ESC; Metabolic theory of biodiversity, MTB). His research topics refer to eutrophication mechanism and ecosystem management under changing climate by understanding the relationships between freshwater environments (water temperature, water clarity and macro-nutrients) and some aquatic organisms (phytoplankton, zooplankton and macroinvertebrate). He was familiar with the operation of advanced limnological equipments (YSI, Skalar and FlowCAM). His effort is on the way to develop detailed equations for complex model and integrated assessment, although his studies led to a list of English and Chinese publications:
