The RACC high school team from University Gardens School in San Juan, Puerto Rico is investigating nutrient impacts on algal growth. During the summer and fall of 2014, the RACC high school team created a partnership with the San Juan Botanical Gardens where the experiment is housed. Teacher Nelson Ruiz and his students Anthony Hernandez Vazquez and Radames Revilla conducted a series of trials to learn how various sources of nutrients impact algae. They have been monitoring the temperature, pH, nutrient levels, as well as algal response in a controlled setting. The team will present their data at the 2015 Vermont EPSCoR Student Research Symposium on March 30th.
