Abstract

Target Audience:
Clinical Providers, TSN Coordinators,

Objectives:
1) Understand the potential application of story tools to improve patient care
2) Describe the importance of language as a predictor of mental health outcomes

Session Description:
When you talk to your patients, are they telling you a story of recovery or non-recovery with their words?
Quantitative measurement of stories and language can provide new insights into patient treatment and outcomes. Explore how analysis of patient language and comparison to established health ratings can create a SuperLearner algorithmic model to forecast outcomes based on patient narrative. For instance, a patient’s language and story could predict psychopathology severity during acute post-trauma period or identify cognitive-communication impairments.

Key Content Points: Please identify up to three key content points which will be covered in your session.
1) Describe what narrative analysis is and the tools behind it.
2) Explore how story can be used to predict patient outcomes.
3) Review health applications of story based technology.

Main Action Item:
Identify points of patient care that could be improved by research or application of story analysis algorithms.
Collaborate with researchers on gathering patient stories and outcomes to create more accurate predictive models.
