WORKSHOP LEADER: Robert Porter, PhD, has presented grant writing workshops at leading universities and medical schools internationally. Currently Director of Research Development at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Porter has received the Distinguished Faculty Award by the Society of Research Administrators International. With thirty years' experience as a tenured professor, private consultant and research administrator, his proposals have won more than $8 million in awards from government agencies and private foundations. A national leader in the growing field of research development, he has presented papers and workshops on grant writing at national conferences and has published prize-winning articles in the Journal of Research Administration and Research Management Review. Dr. Porter has previously taught at Virginia Tech, Swarthmore College, Susquehanna University and Eastern Washington University. He holds graduate degrees in Speech Communications from the University of Michigan. |
SBIR/STTR PRESENTER: Karen West owns C & P Management Services, LLC, a small, woman, veteran-owned business that provides strategic business management assistance to small and large businesses. With concentrated expertise in purchasing, proposal management and contract management services, Ms. West provides detailed oriented project related services to clients with an emphasis on meeting client requirements in a timely manner. Karen has over twenty-six years of business experience including government and civilian contracting, subcontracting and supply management. She has had hands-on, in-depth experience from small purchases to complex multi-million dollar environmental, electronic, aerospace and R&D proposal preparation, contract negotiation and administration for both small and large businesses with an emphasis on the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) program. She has been a Subject Matter Expertise to Lockheed Martin on the SBIR/STTR program. Karen has developed and implemented policies and procedures for several companies and has written an ISO 9000 Supply Management directive for a local company and provides contract management services to companies receiving federal awards. Ms. West was a Contracting Officer in the Air Force and has extensive knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation and other Agency regulations. While in the Air Force, she also earned her technical instructor certification and taught several government contract and procurement courses. |
