FY 2017 NSF CAREER Solicitation (NSF 17-537) Released

We wanted to notify you that the solicitation for the FY 2017 NSF CAREER competition (NSF 17-537) has been released.

Program page:                        https://www.nsf.gov/career
Solicitation NSF 17-537:         https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2017/nsf17537/nsf17537.htm

The solicitation remains essentially the same as in years past, with two changes.

  1. Eligibility requirements have been revised to clarify the required early-career status of applicants.
  2. Support for senior personnel other than the PI that is commensurate with a limited collaborative role in the project is now allowed in the budget of the proposal or of a subrecipient.
The language surrounding eligibility is as follows:

  • Hold a doctoral degree in a field supported by NSF by the cognizant Directorate's deadline for submission of CAREER proposals;
  • Be engaged in research in an area of science, engineering, or education supported by NSF;
  • Be employed in a tenure-track (or tenure-track-equivalent) position as an assistant professor (or equivalent title) as of October 1 after the proposal submission;
  • Be untenured as of October 1 following the proposal submission; and
  • Have not previously received a CAREER award. (Prior or concurrent Federal support for other types of awards for non-duplicative research does not preclude eligibility.)

The submission dates for proposals are in mid-July and are directorate-dependent:

BIO, CISE, EHR – due 19 July 2017
ENG – due 20 July 2017
GEO, MPS, SBE – 21 July 2017
