Making Choices with NewBrook School

VT EPSCoR post-doctoral candidate Liz Doran, PhD shares some of her BREE research with students from NewBrook School in Newfane, VT.

CWDD Operations Manager Janel Roberge traveled to NewBrook School in Newfane, VT to lead 14 fifth-graders through a Stated Choice Activity on May 3, 2021. The young scientists grappled with the complex issues surrounding waterbody governance, gaining a deeper understanding of the current state of Lake Champlain and the numerous organizations invested in ensuring a clean and healthy lake.

Later that week, Vermont EPSCoR post-doctoral candidate Liz Doran, PhD joined the discussion to deepen the students' thinking about how decisions are made. Earlier in the year, the students had performed an exploration of a leaky faucet as part of a research unit, and Dr. Doran used that exercise to illustrate BREE research models to the classroom.
