Vermont EPSCoR Partners with Vermont Works for Women

Women Can Do is Vermont Works for Women's annual career exploration conference for high school girls and gender-expansive youth. Students are invited to Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT for a day of hands-on exploration of STEM and trades careers, and networking with VT professionals, employers, and organizations to learn about secondary education and career opportunities in the state. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Women Can Do is returning in-person on October 6th, 2022, serving 250 high school youth. VT EPSCoR support will be used to support curriculum development and on-site curriculum delivery.

Rosie's Girls is Vermont Works for Women's summer camp and afterschool STEM and trades exploration program for middle school girls and gender-expansive youth. At Rosie's Girls, participants are introduced to career fields that are non-traditional for their gender through hands-on learning in a supportive and empowering environment. In addition to hands-on technical learning, Rosie's Girls includes a social and emotional curriculum known as "Power Skills”. In the coming year, we hope to serve at least 100 middle school youth through summer and afterschool programming. VT EPSCoR support will be designated for afterschool program delivery at Winooski Middle School and in other high need communities.

Vermont Works for Women provides opportunities for early-career exploration, personal and professional development, and entrepreneurship for girls, women, and gender non-conforming individuals.

This partnership will help enable a pathway from middle school to career, with the intention of helping participants explore employment and economic opportunities that meet individual motivations. These entrepreneurship activities are targeted for individuals from middle school ages to adult, focused on empowering women's narratives to start and inform meaningful businesses and gain financial independence.
