VT EPSCoR was well represented at the recent 27th National NSF EPSCoR Conference hosted by Maine EPSCoR in Portland, ME on November 13 – 16, 2022. The conference focused around the theme, "Translating Needs to Outcomes". Dr. Kirk Dombrowski, Vice President for Research at the University of Vermont; State Director, Arne Bomblies; Associate Director, Christopher Koliba; Manager, Cyberinfrastructure and Partnerships, Patrick Clemins; and Assistant Director and Project Administrator, Lillian Gamache participated in the three-day meeting. The conference had over 400 attendees including those from all EPSCoR states and jurisdictions.
Dr. Koliba served as an invited speaker for a "Best Practices for Engaging Underrepresented Minorities in Community Science" panel workshop where he shared best practices from the VT EPSCoR Center for Workforce Development and Diversity (CWDD) outreach efforts and integration into Vermont's scientific research foci. Dr. Clemins was an invited speaker for a "Networking Reception for Junior Faculty and First-Time Attendees" where he shared his experiences about the role of VT EPSCoR in his career development particularly with interdisciplinary team science and several VT EPSCoR Track-1 and 2 awards. Lillian Gamache served as Chair of the Track-1 Project Administrator Meeting and Coordinator for the "Networking Reception for Junior Faculty and First-Time Attendees".
The conference was designed to serve as a collaborative forum for interactive presentations and dialogue on rising trends in science, research and broadening participation. Keynote and breakout sessions covered topics such as economic development, convergence research, science of team science, diversity, education, outreach, data management, communications, and community science.
