Vermont EPSCoR and the UVM Extension 4-H program are joining forces in an effort to encourage and engage more Vermont youth activity in STEM areas. 4-H reaches youths aged 5 to 18 all across Vermont.
On average, the Vermont 4-H program reaches about 8,000 youth every year. Vermont EPSCoR will partner with 4-H for the Teen Science Café Series, the Natural Resources Management Academy, and participation at a national conference called Ignite by 4-H.
The Teen Science Café Series offers a free, fun way for teens to engage in lively conversations with STEM experts that explore the advances in science and technology that affect their lives. This series showcases a wide variety of STEM fields so teens can see and explore a variety of STEM pathways.
The 4-H program's Natural Resources Management Academy takes place every July for youth entering grades 7 to 10. Participation in the summer program allows up to 30 teens who are interested in the environment some in-depth exploration of their passion for Vermont's natural resources.
Ignite by 4-H is a national teen summit that takes place in Washington, DC. This 4-day experience allows teens a chance to connect, make memories, and find their spark by exploring the best 4-H has to offer in STEM, agriscience, healthy living, career readiness, and emotional wellbeing. The 2023 summit will happen from March 9th to 12th, and it will be the first time that the Vermont 4-H program will attend.
