Vermont EPSCoR hosted a remote Alan Alda Communicating Science Workshop on January 11th and 12th, 2023. This workshop marked the ninth consecutive year in which Vermont EPSCoR has partnered with the Alan Alda Communicating Science Center at Stonybrook University to deliver an opportunity for scientists to hone their communication skills.
From 2015 to 2020, these workshops took place at the University of Vermont. Restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic caused the last few workshops to take place remotely. Fortunately, the instructors at the Alan Alda Communicating Science Center have adapted to a virtual environment, allowing unique opportunities for scientists to hone their communication skills in a remote environment. Faculty, postdoctoral associates, and graduate students from the University of Vermont, Brown University, Middlebury College, Norwich University, and St. Michael's College participated in the two-day workshop, which used a variety of exercises to teach scientists strategies and approaches to communicating their work to a broad audience.
