Caitlin Crossett, PhD served as a graduate research assistant for the Vermont EPSCoR BREE research team and successfully defended her PhD dissertation in March 2022. Starting in Fall 2023, she will take the next step in her career progression, as she moves on to become an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina Asheville in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences. Dr. Crossett will begin her new academic post in the Fall 2023 semester.
The exciting news comes less than one year after Dr. Crossett successfully defended her dissertation, joined a postdoctoral research program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in the Geoscience department in May 2022, where she studied lake-effect snow and taught undergraduate courses.
"The most valuable part of my experience with Vermont EPSCoR were the connections that I made," said Dr. Crossett as she reflected on her time with Vermont EPSCoR. "I not only met a number of influential peer mentors within EPSCoR and across UVM, but I was also afforded the opportunity to work with several female faculty mentors who provided support, advice, and served as role models during my time at UVM and now, as I start a career in academia."
At the University of North Carolina Asheville, Dr. Crossett will be able to take advantage of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Centers for Environmental Information, which is one of the largest weather data centers in the United States.
