About the Capstone Workshop
Please join us for the RAISE-VT Capstone Workshop to brainstorm and discuss ways to strengthen research and research administrative infrastructure across the state of Vermont. With the guidance of a strategic planning and facilitation consultant (Stephanie Lahar & Associates), we have conducted a gap analysis and held several facilitated stakeholder engagement sessions. We will present our combined findings at this one-day, hybrid-format, Capstone Workshop. The RAISE-VT project is funded by an NSF GRANTED award and organized by a Steering Committee of experienced research support professionals with representation from University of Vermont, the state EPSCoR office, the Vermont State Colleges System, Landmark College, St. Michael’s College, and Champlain College. The Capstone Workshop will convene a diverse group of stakeholders to ensure a breadth of perspectives are represented at the workshop, including Vermont's higher education institution research administrators, institutional leaders, and research administrators, and researchers, as well as national research administrator organizations and additional EPSCoR jurisdictions, since many of the challenges in supporting research and researchers in Vermont are common to institutions and regions within other states.
The RAISE-VT Capstone Workshop will be facilitated by Stephanie Lahar and Associates LLC, a Vermont-based consulting firm specializing in stakeholder viewpoint balancing. Established in 1999, Stephanie Lahar and Associates is regularly called on by education, nonprofit, business, and government leaders to guide organizations in and outside of Vermont in strategic planning and organizational development. Previously, Stephanie served as Academic Dean at Woodbury College, where she led the design of degree and certificate programs and accreditation processes, and has served as the higher education representative to the Central Vermont Council for Workforce Development. Stephanie is a highly engaging facilitator with a deep expertise in group dynamics. Past clients and projects have included significant work with NSF-funded EPSCoR programs.

RAISE Vermont Workshop Leadership Team
The RAISE VT workshop is organized by a Steering Committee of experienced research administrators that represent the variety of research support careers, including research development and research administration, and geographically represent institutions of higher education statewide, from the sole PhD-granting institution (UVM) to primarily undergraduate institutions serving neurodiverse students (Landmark) and rural Vermonters (Vermont State College System). Importantly, several members of our RAISE leadership team have demonstrable experience leading workshops and conferences. Co-PI Haraldsen served as the NORDP Northeast Advisory Committee chair for 2 years during the COVID-19 pandemic, running several successful virtual conference events for the northeast region, including a “virtual road trip” series hosted by academic institutions across the northeast. Co-PI Gamache recently served on the 2022 Organizing Committee for the National NSF EPSCoR Conference held in Portland, Maine. Co-PI Gamache recently served as Member and Chair of the NSF EPSCoR PA Council. She is currently serving as Council Chair Emeritus and on a planning committee for the upcoming 2024 NSF EPSCoR National Conference in Omaha, NE. Ms. Gamache has organized numerous communications workshops and Annual VT EPSCoR State Meetings in her role as VT EPSCoR Assistant Director. Dr. Malaby chaired the Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) for the Motile and Contractile Systems Gordon Research Conference in 2017. As chair of the GRS, Dr. Malaby was integral to fundraising to pay for the conference, organization and selection of speakers and panelists, and provided a funding mechanism to ensure participation by diverse attendees. Steering Committee members are described in detail below:
