Mark Milutinovich

Mark Milutinovich is the Executive Director of Research & Large Center Development at the University of New Hampshire and former Chair of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) Northeast Advisory Committee.
 
At UNH, Mark guides the strategic directions of centralized research development activities and core facilities, including identifying and advancing institutional research priorities; building programs to support investments in critical research capacity and infrastructure; pursuing strategic research partnerships; and refining strategies for defining and supporting university centers.
 
Mark joined UNH in January 2015 as founding Director of the Office of Large Center Development, which was consolidated with the Office of Research Development under his leadership in 2019. In these roles, Mark supported UNH's attainment of R1 Carnegie Classification in 2019, a then-UNH record of $130M in awards in FY20, and now subsequent years of $200M+ in competitive funding. In addition, he created the UNH Collaborative Research Excellence Initiative, an annual funding program to stimulate interdisciplinary collaborations that has generated $34M in additional externally funded awards through activities that have engaged over 3,000 participants outside the university.
 
Prior to joining UNH, Mark served as Program Director of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Research Competitiveness Program (RCP), which assisted universities, government agencies, and EPSCoR/IDeA programs in planning, reviewing or evaluating programs and initiatives in research, development, and innovation.
 
Before joining AAAS, Mark completed an internship with the United States House of Representatives Committee on Science. Mark obtained a Ph.D. in biology from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
