The primary objective of the University of Vermont Watershed Alliance (WSA) is to increase awareness and knowledge of watershed issues in Vermont youth. The Watershed Alliance provides curriculum materials, equipment, and Watershed Educators to schools and youth groups participating in our program, as well as support and guidance for teachers in designing programs in which children learn about watersheds and related water issues.
Watershed Educators are trained UVM undergraduate students interested in water resources and environmental education. In working with the WSA, these students conduct workshops in schools and other academic settings throughout Vermont. The workshops feature a classroom component, where participants are introduced to watershed concepts through our interactive watershed model, as well as a field component, where students take to the field for hands-on water quality monitoring exercises.
