VT EPSCoR Presents at American Geophysical Union

Graduate Research Assistant Brittany Lancellotti presenting her poster

Post-doctoral Associates Erin Seybold and Jory Hecht and Graduate Research Assistant Brittany Lancellotti joined more than 20,000 other earth and space scientists in new Orleans, Louisiana for the 2017 AGU Fall Meeting, which ran from December 11th through December 15th.

Erin Seybold presented a poster that examined the connection between nutrient export, land use, and climate in Vermont and similar systems across the northeastern United States. This provided her with an opportunity to discuss her research with many interested scientists.

Jory Hecht presented a poster that explored the sensitivity of algal blooms in Lake Champlain to changes in precipitation and temperature variability and extremes. His poster session also focused on water quality impacts of hydrometeorological extreme events, which he organized with BREE research Andrew Schroth and two external collaborators.

Brittany Lancellotti also presented a research poster at AGU, this one focusing on quantifying phosphorus content in soils of four riparian buffers within the BREE soil monitoring network. The results of her research indicated that phosphorous content is higher in agricultural areas than in forested sites, but soil wetness does not have a significant effect on phosphorous content within soil. Brittany also competed in the Outstanding Student Paper Awards.

The next AGU Fall Meeting is scheduled for December 10th through December 14th, 2018 in Washington, DC. More information about the most recent Fall Meeting can be found at https://fallmeeting.agu.org/2017.
