    With a changing climate, storms in the Northeast are becoming more frequent and intense. Patterns of land use - for agriculture, development and forest - also are rapidly shifting across the region. How will these changes affect water quality? How will streams and rivers react? And what can people do to more effectively respond to fast changes in the Lake Champlain Basin, as surges of water and nutrients move through?

    Vermont EPSCoR Annual State Meeting
    The Vermont EPSCoR annual state meeting was held On May 16, 2013 at the Burlington Sheraton Hotel and Conference center. 
    
    Invited guests and speakers included stakeholders, faculty, External Advisory Committee Members, NSF Program Officers, VT State Leaders, University of Vermont Leadership, students and private sector leaders.

    CWDD Student Research Symposium
    Record attendance capped off the research year at the VT EPSCoR Center for Workforce Development and Diversity (CWDD) 5th annual Student Research Symposium on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the DoubleTree Hotel in South Burlington, VT.

    VT EPSCoR Visits the Vermont State House
    On May 7th, 2013, Vermont EPSCoR staff  members Patrick Clemins and Miranda Lescaze visited the Vermont State House.  The purpose of their visit was to educate and update legislators about VT EPSCoR programs.  Legislators from around the state stopped by to learn about RACC research and CWDD outreach programs for middle school teachers, high schools, undergraduates including disabled and military veterans.

    First-Ever NSF Visit Day
    Fifteen faculty, graduate students and post-doctoral associates working on the VT EPSCoR research Adaptation to Climate Change in the Lake Champlain Basin: New Understanding through Complex Systems (RACC) traveled to the National Science Foundation (NSF) on March 7, 2013 to visit with 15 Program Directors encompassing a wide range of directorates to learn about new NSF initiatives and funding mechanisms. The visit was designed to expose graduate students and post-doctoral associates to the National Science Foundation and acquaint the group members with funding opportunities as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) mentoring and career development efforts of VT EPSCoR.
