From the Director

Dear Colleagues, Please welcome Dr. Clelia Marti, who has officially joined Vermont EPSCoR and the University of Vermont as a Research Assistant Professor with the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. She is currently contributing to the development of a fully 3D coupled physical and biogeochemical model of Lake Champlain as part of the Vermont EPSCoR Basin Resilience to Extreme Events (BREE) project. Our BREE colleagues continue to grow and receive recognitions for their expertise and accomplishments – most recently Dr. Declan McCabe who is a Co-PI on a new NSF S-STEM award that will help train more data-savvy students through scholarships at Saint Michael’s College; and Dr. Lesley-Ann Dupigny-Giroux, who will receive the 2018 Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) Professional Excellence Award. Our Graduate Research Associates and Post-doctoral Associates are making valuable contributions to BREE and leveraging resources such as Kevin Andrew who attended the San Diego Supercomputing Center at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) for their Summer Institute Workshop. Kevin was able to attend because of a student travel grant he secured. The impacts of the research and workforce development efforts are numerous as we strive to continue to strengthen and build capacity for increased STEM funding and infrastructure throughout Vermont. There is much more information in this newsletter that I hope you find interesting and useful. Please stay in touch and visit us often for regular updates at www.uvm.edu/EPSCoR Feel free to contact us at epscor@uvm.edu if you have any questions or would like to learn more. Sincerely, Arne Bomblies, Ph.D., PE Vermont State EPSCoR Director
