Abstract | I have been a climate advisor to the people and state of Vermont for more than 10 years. I prepare invited overview reports for the state, give talks to professional groups, citizens groups and religious groups, write newspaper articles, and give radio and television interviews (see alanbetts.com). I relate weather and climate concepts to the direct experience of audiences, so they can grasp my own climate research. I tell stories about the impact of extreme weather on people’s lives; and map what lies ahead for our children and grand-children with our present fossil fuel-based economy. I explain the science, but I also explore the practical choices we have as communities to create a more resilient world. I discuss our moral responsibility for the future of our children and the future of the Earth. My talk will illustrate this framing of climate issues. |
