2015-01-19 RACC High School Program: Long Trail School Aquaponics Project

Wed, 01/14/2015 - 15:40
The RACC high school team from Long Trail School is investigating nutrient flux in a closed hydroponics system - to see how nutrients impact algal growth. In 2013, science teacher Scott Worland oversaw the construction of the school's new greenhouse which houses the hydroponic system. During the summer and fall of 2014, the 2014-15 RACC high school team led the design and construction of the hydroponic system, stocking tanks with macrophytes, algae, and trout. Scott Worland and his students have been monitoring the temperature, pH, nutrient levels, as well as plant and fish response since early fall. The team will present their data at the 2015 Vermont EPSCoR Student Research Symposium on March 30th.
