For UVM Faculty:

NSF EPSCoR RII Track-2 FEC (Focused EPSCoR Collaborations)

The National Science Foundation Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NSF EPSCoR) has announced the following funding opportunity: Research Infrastructure Improvement Program Track-2 Focused EPSCoR Collaborations (RII Track-2 FEC). The full RFP may be found here:

https://www.nsf.gov/publications/pub_summ.jsp?ods_key=nsf15517

  • The number of submissions per state is unlimited but there can be only one per institution.
  • At UVM, the Vice President for Research and VT EPSCoR State Committee, the Vermont Technology Council, will determine which if any proposals go forward.
  • The topics are to be consistent with NSF priorities, and they are encouraging cognitive neuroscience, clean energy and food security.
  • There must be a collaboration with another EPSCoR jurisdiction. The second institution will have the Co-PI and a subcontract.
  • Full proposals are due Feb. 20 at NSF.
  • Please note that you may also be a Co-PI on proposals with PIs from other EPSCoR eligible states.

Because of the tight time line, we ask that you submit the following via epscor@uvm.edu

  1. By 4 pm on December 8, a Letter of Intent with title of the proposal and names of PI and Co-PI (with affiliation). This Letter of Intent is required in order to be eligible to submit a full proposal to NSF.
  2. By 4 pm on December 17, a 5 page pre-proposal that addresses:
    • A topic area consistent with NSF priorities, including but not limited to cognitive neuroscience, clean energy and food security.
    • A plan for collaboration with a Co-PI, preferably with a history of collaboration with the PI. Describe the history of the collaboration.
    • A plan for enhancing the careers of junior faculty.
    • The impact on the state’s research infrastructure.

There will be a rapid review of the pre-proposals by a panel and a decision made on the selection of the proposal to go forward to NSF by December 19.
