The RACC high school team from Aurea E Quiles High School in Guanica, Puerto Rico is investigating macroinvertebrate recolonization following forest fires and prescribed burns in the dry forest of Guanica, PR. Teacher Glenda Almodovar-Morales and her students Grecia Izquierdo and Jose Izquierdo set a series of traps to collect dry-forest macroinvertebrates. They have been identifying the macronivertebrates using equipment at the aquatic ecology lab at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. The team will present their data at the 2015 Vermont EPSCoR Student Research Symposium on March 30th.
